For writers unable to attend meetings because of distance or disability, there is the Isolated Writers’ Regional (conducted by correspondence), which provides support, advice, assistance and a chance to contact and commune with fellow writers.
The FAW NSW State Office is proactive in reaching out across the state of New South Wales to assist writers in many ways. If you, as an Isolated Writer or a Regional would like some information, assistance or a visit from your State Council, please advise the State Office.
Round Robin Critiques
It really helps to have your work read by others and it can be difficult for Isolated Writers to receive unbiased comment on their work. The Round Robin service offers just this opportunity. It’s an easy to access, swap-critique network, where Isolated Writers simply post their work to a central point (see below), from which it is forwarded in turn to similar writers for their impressions and comments. The comments of others are valuable to you, just as yours are valuable to them. Even inexperienced writers have an opinion, and can spot small errors or points that may make a difference to your story, poem or article. All it costs is the postage to mail your manuscript and have it returned, plus sending the work of others on to the next reader on the list provided.
Getting started is easy. Read the Isolated Writers information printed in every issue of Writers Voice, follow the guidelines, and get ready for friendly, helpful advice on your writing.
