Young Writers' Poetry Competition for School Students

Held annually for school children. Prizes for different ages are paid from the Hilarie Lindsay Trust Fund. Even year poetry, odd year prose. Four Sections:
- Section 1: Years 10, 11 & 12
- Section 2: Years 7, 8 & 9
- Section 3: Years 5 & 6
- Section 4: Year 4 & under.

The FAW Walter Stone Memorial Award 2008

A biennial competition for an unpublished biography, monograph or bibliography of not more than 40,000 words, on some aspect of Australian literature. The prize of $1,000 is paid from a trust fund set up with a bequest by the late Jean Stone and member donations. Details.
2006 Winner: ‘Agnes Hamilton-Grey: A Life’ – Jill Dimond, NSW.
The FAW Jean Stone Poetry Award 2008

Held biennially on the even year, for a poem or group of poems up to 60 lines. The prize of $500 is paid from a trust fund established from friends and well-wishers of the late Jean Stone. Details.
FAW Regional Newsletter Award 2008

All Regionals are eligible to enter for this award, judged annually on content, interest, presentation and consistency over a 12-month period. Send a 12-month set of sample issues to FAW Regional Newsletter Award, PO Box 488, Rozelle NSW 2039.

The FAW Isolated Writers Competition 2008

The 2008 Isolated Writers Competition was open ONLY to those financial members of the Isolated Writers Regional who had not previously won a prize in any literary competition. Four Categories:
- ARTICLE: Maximum 2,000 words – 1st prize $100, 2nd prize $75
- POETRY FREE VERSE: Maximum 50 lines – 1st prize $100, 2nd prize $75
- POETRY TRADITIONAL VERSE: Maximum 50 lines – 1st prize $100, 2nd prize $75
- SHORT STORY: Maximum 3,000 words – 1st prize $100, 2nd prize $75.
Results to be published in Writers' Voice
The FAW Marjorie Barnard Short Story Award
Named after the distinguished novelist who provided in her will for this biennial competition. $500 is offered as first prize for a short story of 3,000 words. Held on an uneven year.
2007 Winner: Geoffrey Dean, TAS. – 'The Man Who Forgot Himself'.
The FAW Wooden Horse Award
This is offered every year for the first professional publication by an FAW member. This is a small handcarved figure of a horse. There is no monetary prize.
